There’s no shortage of hotel booking sites on the interwebs – and usually, when a new one comes along it’s just a rehash of the same old thing. In fact, most of them we’ve been seeing over the past few years are simply new ways to sort the same old data – I’m not saying that isn’t a great thing – because sometimes it works really well, but certainly it is nice to see something new come along that offers great savings on upscale sites by itself.
Allow me to introduce TravelPony.com
Here is how they do it:
The experts at TravelPony scour the web and work the phones to get the best prices for a number of upscale hotel properties and then using only social media and the power of word of mouth (including blog posts like this) they share those prices – since they don’t have a huge advertising budget to account for or a staff of marketers to pay – they can charge significantly less by taking a smaller percentage of commission. Here’s the deal – you have to become a member – I know – I heard that and thought – “Okay, here is the $5.95 per year or whatever to save” but, no, that’s not it. You can become a member for free with your email or Facebook and then you become a part of their network. You will be encouraged to tell your friends and family about TravelPony, but you don’t have to – but honestly, why wouldn’t you want to save friends and family money on quality hotels when they travel? By sharing rates via social media, you end up making the site work better which lowers rates which saves you money…soooo
The way it works is you select a city at the site and then you can choose either standard or upscale listings. I should mention, if you are looking for budget hotels or hostels – this isn’t the site for you. This is a site designed to save you money on nicer hotels in established tourist cities so it’s not a backpacker tool – but that being said – even backpackers like to splurge on occasion and why not save big?
So, now that I’ve told you, I need to show you because showing beats telling by at least 72% every.
Let’s say you want to get away to Hawaii and stay in a nice hotel to beat the winter blues…
Alright – Aqua Pearl Waikiki – A good hotel in Hawaii – no doubt about it, it has everything you need and you won’t complain.
Travelocity – $237 per night
Expedia – $237 per night
TravelPony – $177 per night
That’s some serious savings. That comes down to if you stay 3 nights, you get the 4th night free. Stay 8 nights for the price of 6! It’s more than 25%!
Still not a believer? Let’s look at a different city…
You decide the flight to Hawaii is too much and instead want to go to Los Angeles -
The L.A. Hotel Downtown – a 5-star property
Travelocity – $269 per night
Expedia – $269 per night
TravelPony – $219 per night
Again, a huge difference of almost 20% off.
I want to point out – TravelPony won’t work for every trip, it won’t work for every city, it won’t work for every budget – but it does work. And, once you sign up they send you member’s only deals so you can plan a trip around the best savings available. That’s not a bad way to go. Here is one of the latest – not bad James K! Not bad at all.
